Talk:Editathon for Bassel

From Wikimania

@Phoebe, Nikikana, Sj, Ezarate: (I've chosen you because 3 of you edited this page and Ezarate was recommended to me in the Wikinews 'village pump'.)

For your notice, I have written an article on Bassel Khartabil on Dutch Wikinews today, over here. May be some people would like to write a Wikinews article, although mine was quite late yet (ten days later than the news got known).

The rules are different per Wikinews language. May be it's good to give a little more explanation. At least English Wikinews has a limit how long ago something may have happened. On English Wikinews this is 3 days (see Freshness / little talk on this in the 'Village pump'). So the possibilities for the English chapter are quite small. In general there may not be such rules on other Wikinews languages. I found nothing about it in German or French (fyi on Dutch Wikinews there isn't this limit).

As far as I could find, there are review systems in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Iranian, Russian, Japanese and Catalan (but I'm not sure, I just interpret this from the following links [1][2][3]). This could mean that publication is delayed on the one hand, but probably that there is some help around on the other.

I'm not at Wikimania in Montreal. For me there is a time lap of 6 hours, so you will end there in the evening on my watch. I can look around a couple of times in case there are questions. One can always {{ping}} me for that. Have a nice day tomorrow! Ymnes (talk) 17:21, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

7 days for eswikinews, If you translate to English, I will do to Spanish, Regards --Ezarate (talk) 17:37, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ezarate: (and others)
Here above there is a link to the 'village pump' of Wikinews in English. The answer I got there is that (according to the rules there) the article doesn't meet the freshness criteria any more. If my mother language would have been English, I could have been able to rewrite the article in a way that the newsworthiness issue would be solved. May be some English speaker can try that during the editathon? On news on Bassel Khartabil, one should try to find at least one article that deals with the newest developments starting from August 1th. In Spanish I have found these for you: [4][5]. Good luck! The sources provides are oldest than 7 days, so they have lost of freshness --Ezarate (talk) 19:05, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In English there is this same rule... Rules are different for each language. Who knows something is still possible tomorrow (other approach, or different rules at other languages). Ymnes (talk) 19:13, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

news involved him in eswikinews --Ezarate (talk) 20:09, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Ymnes (talk) 20:59, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't receive any reply from the organisation. I guess my support is not needed. Have a good editathon! I'll view the proceedings later. Ymnes (talk) 12:38, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the writeup, Ymnes. Sj (talk) 15:43, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Phoebe, Nikikana, Sj: Can anybody explain what happened? An editathon was planned and nobody was here. Ymnes (talk) 18:49, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
