- Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)
- Wikimedia Foundation engaged this session's speakers to explore trends in society and technology that are most likely to influence and impact Wikimedia Foundation's work in the coming 15 years. Based on dozens of interviews, reading, research and synthesis, attendees will hear the key themes from among the trends and ideas explored, how these themes are predicted to unfold, and what possibilities lie ahead for the Wikimedia movement.
Areas of inquiry include shifts in media consumption habits, predictions for the future of reading, an exploration of emerging media platforms, censorship, the rise of misinformation and propaganda, and the evolution of the field of research and access to high-quality information. In each of these key areas, we’ll present our findings and offer scenarios that reflect the best thinking we’ve uncovered.
The intent of our research is to provide the backdrop that grounds future Wikimedia movement strategy development. By considering the best responses to future opportunities and threats, together we will be able to foster the future resilience of the movement.
Come and learn more about what the future may hold, and contribute your own ideas and information sources before we prepare our final report.
