Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)

OpenStreetMap is an active community of thousands of local contributors worldwide crowdsourcing neighbourhood data every day. Much of the data collected on OpenStreetMap is of interest to Wikimedia projects and we will cover the basics of how Wikipedia, Wikidata, and the OpenStreetMap project connect with each other through various editing tools and extensions.

There is great potential for cross-project collaboration, with both of our communities deeply rooted in the value of a collaborative building and free access & creation of information.

Participants will learn:

How to add an OpenStreetMap map to a Wikipedia article using the maplink element
The basics of OpenStreetMap editing using the iD editor
Add Wikidata and Wikipedia links into OpenStreetMap using iD editor
Organizing Wikimedia and OSM community mapping tasks using maproulette

This would be helpful in:

Increasing the number of embedded maps in Wiki articles using the new Kartographer extension
Driving more contributors to the OpenStreetMap project for better free maps for Wikipedia
Driving more cross-collaborative projects between Wikimedia and OpenStreetMap

Targeted participants:

Note: The participants are required to bring their own computers
