WOK project aims to take Wikipedia to the next level by adding a dimension currently missing- multiple choice questions. By adding control questions in form of a quiz in the end of every Wikipedia article, WOK has open up a new dimension of learning. Just as control questions at the end of each chapter in any textbook give the student time to reflect what has been read in order to learn. This is missing today in Wikipedia and the World of Knowledge project adress this issue. By the app WikiMaster but also with an API to be implemented by Wikipedia Community. During 16 years and counting Wikipedia has been developing into the Nr 1 tool for trustful source for information and knowledge driving the extent of wikipedia articles beyond millions. WOK is a cousin project to Wikipedia developed by a dedicated small team since 2013 with a vision to enhance the grand Wikipedia project.
Today 350000 multiple choice questions is already tagged by the new Wikipedia community WOK. WOK mix Wikipedia, quiz and social media and aim to continue to be the Nr 1 Knowledge Network. WOK is Wikipedia with fun added. At date the Google App WikiMAster have a 4.4 rating and close to 200K downloads. WOK is currently on four languages with quiz and more will come.
WOK have added quiz to every article, indexed by wikipedia articles. With this simple and yet elegant solution; all the good with Wikipedia is still there. Nothing of Wikipedia is kept out or minimized. But just as good text books have control questions for reflection and learning in the end of the chapters: Wikipedia should have it. And with the collaboration of the growing community of WOKers, 350000 multiple choice questions on top of Wikipedia is already created.
- What will attendees take away from this session? The insight of Wikipedia in its current form can be further developed into a school, a social network for learning and an even better tool for learning than it is today.
