- Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)
- Background: I've been organizing, coorganizing and helping out with several international or local Wikimedia events of various sizes and types and I've seen people still reinventing the same wheels and doing the same not-the-best decisions.
This session should be about both discussing and sharing the experiences from past organizers as well as giving advices to those who are interested in running some event (not necessarily limited to those who didn't run any yet).
It should identify typical/common bottlenecks and biggest problems in organization of events and ideally finding consensual best solutions to them.
Preferably, at the end there should be some outcome in the form of guidelines and/or lessons learned. - What will attendees take away from this session?
- (depending on the allocated time slot and how the discussion will evolve)
Those interested in running events will gain reasonable pile of knowledge on organizing to prevent taking the same dead end paths.
Some documented guidelines for others who did not attend. - Theme of presentation
- assuming WikiCulture & Community fits the best
- For workshops and discussions, what level is the intended audience?
- any
- Length of session (if other than 25 minutes, specify how long)
- 55 minutes seems to make a sense, 40 minutes [do we have 45 mins slots?] doable, 25 minutes doable when partially limiting the scope (assuming it will evolve to later unscheduled talks of individuals anyway)
- Will you attend Wikimania if your submission is not accepted?
- depends on scholarship, preferably yes
- Slides or further information (optional)
- not ATM
- Special requests
- Seems to me it would make a sense to have this discussion more towards the end of Wikimania to be able to reflect the fresh experiences from its organizing already.
- Is this Submission a Draft or Final?
