Wikimedia Foundation’s Language team works with tools that directly affect the capability of using languages other than English, in Wikimedia Projects. Our focus is to ensure that everyone can participate in Wikimedia projects in a language of their choice. In that effort, we create tools and other features that are rolled out on to the wikis in multiple stages. During these roll outs, timely communication is of primary importance, and it has to be tailored depending upon the language of the wiki, size of users affected by the change, or impact of the feature. This session will be an overview of how we connect with users for early feedback, follow up and constant communication. We will highlight the challenges we often face when there are no languages in common between the users and developers.
