Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)

English:

Lecture (or panel/roundtable): Gender representations can be observed and practiced at several levels — at the level of who contributes, we know that the representation is quite imbalanced, with only 8,5 to 22.7% of Wikipedia’s contributors identifying as women; at the level of what subjects are represented on Wikipedia, many important women in different fields aren’t represented on Wikipedia (see the Women in Red project, les sans pagEs, among others); at the level of how things are represented, we can observe many bias in how the articles are written, illustrated, linked, categorized… These three levels are similar for other systemic bias, and they concern anyone who edits Wikipedia. This lecture will present methods that we can all use to work towards a more “neutral” Wikipedia.

Workshop: Towards a gender-neutral writing guide. Collaborative editing workshop on a guide to write articles on Wikipedia with a specific attention to gender representations. It was a conclusion to many discussions I attended to that such a guide would be very helpful for any contributor to Wikipedia, new editors as well as more advanced ones. Many guides are published on the topic, so it would be an occasion to bring all this knowledge on Wikipedia and take a step further to close the Gender Gap. Such kind of works are currently going, in French, but needs more involvement from the community.

Posters: Raising awareness on the importance of gender-neutral writing for a project aiming at neutrality like Wikipedia.

Francais:
