Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)

For last ten years I have been editing on Wikimedia Commons and more recently on Wikidata, with many short term maintenance tasks that require unique tools. I will review various tools I found useful for querying and editing on Commons and Wikidata. Those will include Commons tools like AutoWikiBrouwser, CatScan, VisualFileEditor, cat-a-lot, Quarry (SQL query interface), and use of templates to create maintenance categories. Wikidata tools will include SPARQL query service, petscan, quick_statements, Multi-BEACON, etc. I will talk about do's and don'ts of editing with help of tools and how to use them responsibly. Also will talk about tasks that fall between the cracks and how some of those cracks can be filled by combining multiple tools.

What will attendees take away from this session?

Attendees will learn new skills and will be introduced to new tools, which might make them more productive. I also hope that they will learn how to use tools responsibly.
