Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)

After almost ten years as a Wikimedian, during late 2016 early 2017 I spent several months as a Quoran, answering lots of questions including many about Wikimedia and Wikipedia, asking a few questions myself and doing a lot of gnomic stuff. This is a lecture about some differences, some similarities and maybe some lessons for one site or the other.

Quora is a question and answer site in English and I think Spanish. It doesn't use mediawiki, I think it has its own bespoke systems.

What will attendees take away from this session?

Hopefully an insight into Wikimedia projects from looking at a website that is both very different and yet has parallels. Perhaps even some lessons of things done differently that are better or that have their own problems.

A summary of some of the common questions asked there about editing Wikipedia.

For workshops and discussions, what level is the intended audience? Audience members need experience of either editing on a Wikimedia site or Quora, to qualify as a heckler you will need experience of both.

Will you attend Wikimania if your submission is not accepted?
Slides or further information (optional)

As I hope to include screenshots from Quora in my slides it may not be possible to openly license the slides.
