Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)

The policies and strategies being applied in any wiki movement are based on the trends of English Wiki. The growth rate and users contribution statistics are different for the developing countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. There are multiple language wikis and the communities are rich in diversity in terms of food, clothing, lifestyle and occupation. They are different yet similar which makes the data and content relatable. The presentation will focus on the aspects of planning a collaborative movement by formulating SAARC community in Wiki and by organizing combined events. The presentation will include the following-

Community Conversation

The community members with varied backgrounds- students, professionals, teachers, businessmen etc. have a different perspective of wiki movement and its growth. Together we can have a discussion on the various issues addressed and the steps taken to counter them; and also the successful projects of the respective communities which will prove assistive to formulate a shared vision and goals for future.

Selecting Projects of Interest

Every individual from a community can pick any project of interest and can collaborate with other people working on the same project from other community and this will help in multi-dimensional growth of communities.

Target Areas

Depending upon the submissions from the representatives of every participating (SAARC) community, we will prepare a list of topics of interest and will plan future events accordingly.

Combined events

As witnessed in the past, the combined events keep the contributors engaged and motivated to contribute e.g. Punjab edit-a-thon during WCI2016. So, the community may decide to organise more combined events in future.

What will attendees take away from this session?

The attendees will learn more from the experiences of other community members on how to engage more people, how to counter issues, planning events and how to increase contribution and content on wiki.
